Takeaway up front: If your target list is company-specific, a frozen “top 100” grind is often the wrong loop. Cohort freshness — what this company is sending in this hiring wave — usually beats another pass through the same classic set.
Hey — quick intro so you know what you’re following.
This account is for SWE new grads, interns, and job seekers who are tired of treating interview prep like an infinite LeetCode treadmill. The plan here is simple:
Not a product launch post. Not “discard LeetCode forever.” Just a sharper default for people who already know which companies they’re applying to.
There’s a version of prep that feels productive and still misses the screen.
You finish NeetCode 150. You re-do Blind 75. You can recite Two Sum in your sleep. Then the OA lands and it looks like… a long, stateful simulation with settlement rules. Or a four-part in-memory system. Or a SQL window question with a business twist. Or a design prompt that expects you to reason about inventory reservation, not just BFS on a grid.
None of that means fundamentals are useless. Fundamentals are the substrate. The miss is treating a static ranked list as if it were this company’s current filter.
Companies rotate shells. Cohorts get dated. A problem that was “everywhere” in 2023 can still be good practice — and still be the wrong primary bet for the invite you got yesterday.
A better mental model:
| Default grind | Cohort-aware prep |
|---|---|
| Same 100 forever | Last ~30–60 days for your targets |
| Topic shuffle | Company + stage first |
| “I did X mediums” | “I can ship their style under time” |
| Folklore (“Amazon always asks Y”) | Fresh public reports + your own notes |
Freshness here doesn’t mean chasing every rumor. It means prioritizing problems that match:
If you only have 8 focused hours this week, those three filters are how you spend them.
You don’t need a new platform identity to do this. You need a ritual:
That last point matters. Old classics still teach sliding windows and graphs. Use them as drills. Don’t confuse “I can do classic mediums” with “I’m ready for this OA.”
Expect posts in this cadence:
If that sounds useful, follow. If you only want motivational hustle content, this won’t be your timeline.
What’s one company on your list where the OA felt nothing like your generic grind set — and what pattern was it actually testing?
